Over sixty-four participants ran, walked, or “strolled” with their kids in the Marble Valley Runners’ Mother’s Day 5K Run, Walk and Stroller Run on May 11th, resulting in a record-breaking donation of $2,500 to The Rutland County Women’s Network and Shelter.
This annual event had a new course this year in Rutland. The race started and ended at Giorgetti Park, a gem of a park on the city’s west side. Race sponsors included the Rutland Herald, VELCO, Kalow Technologies, the Vermont Country Store, Rutland Women’s Healthcare/RRMC, Green Mountain Power, Hannaford, Richard Frank, Hawley’s Florist, Price Chopper, and Shaw’s. The day couldn’t have been more beautiful, participants enjoyed the new course, and wonderful fun was the order of the day. Almost everyone was a winner, thanks to post-race raffle drawings of donated items provided by Tattersall’s, Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center, and Frog & Lily Pads of Rutland. Safety services along the route were provided by volunteers from GE and by volunteers from the Rutland County Women’s Network and Shelter.
“Our mission since 1979 has been to provide the shelter, services and advocacy that help rebuild the lives of women and children who have been the victims of abuse.” said Marianne Kennedy, Executive Director. “The Marble Valley Runners, and all who participated in the race, are truly representative of the caring community that helps us meet the need for our services in the county. We are so very grateful for their continuing support through this wonderful event in honor of moms…and their kids!”
